Arizona Bill To Instate Armed Militia On Border Progresses To House
Despite record lows in violence along the southwest border between Mexico and Arizona, Gov. Jan Brewer is pushinga costly bill which would create a militia paid with tax payer money to roam the border region. ” Arizona’s state legislature is one step closer to passing bill which would create and fund a volunteer armed militia to patrol the border for undocumented immigrants. On Wednesday morning, the law advanced through the House Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee on a 6-3 party-line vote, according to AZCentral.com. The bill will be vetted in the Rules Committee, and then go on to be debated on the floor of the House in weeks to come.”

Criminal pasts don’t disqualify members of Arpaio posse Americas most anti-immigrant Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been using ex-cons with arrests for assault, drug possession, domestic violence, sex crimes against children, disorderly conduct, to bolster his “posse” of armed volunteers who help the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office “enforce the law.” Maricopa County Sheriff’s Posse members wear uniforms, have badges, drive county vehicles and some even carry guns. And some of them also have criminal records.  “They have as much power as the deputy wants to give them, including the power to arrest under the supervision of that deputy,” said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.Arpaio wants his army of 3,000 volunteer posse members to look like sworn deputies and sometimes perform the same duties. But an in-depth project by CBS 5 Investigates uncovered a number of posse members with arrests for assault, drug possession, domestic violence, sex crimes against children, disorderly conduct, impersonating an officer – and the list goes on.”

How Mitt Romney lost Latinos  Glenn Thrush looks at how the Romney campaign has severely alienated the Hispanic community heading into the 2012 general election. “Republicans had high hopes of eroding President Barack Obama’s dominance among Hispanic voters in 2012 — so great was Latino frustration with Obama’s tough deportation policy and his failure to fulfill the promesa of immigration reform. Instead, with eight months to go before Election Day, Obama is on pace to match the 67 percent support he got from Latino voters in 2008 — and the GOP may be undoing a decade of work to attract Hispanics, thanks to its election-year rhetorical sprint to the right on immigration, a charge led by front-runner Mitt Romney.”
